Lebensgefährliche Kohlenmonoxid-Vergiftungen diesen Winter verhindern - Herbstkampagne 2023 zum Start der Heizsaison

Mit Start der Heizsaison steigt auch wieder die Gefahr von lebensgefährlichen Kohlenmonoxid-Vergiftungen in den eigenen vier Wänden. Durchschnittlich werden knapp 3.500 Patientinnen und Patienten jährlich mit einer Kohlenmonoxid-Vergiftung in Deutschlands Krankenhäuser eingeliefert. Jede Sechste endet tödlich. Häufige Ursache eines CO-Vorfalls sind verstopfte oder blockierte Abgasrohre und Schornsteine sowie die mangelnde Wartung von Kaminen, Öfen, Ölheizungen oder Gasthermen. Eine weitere lebensgefährliche Quelle ist die nicht zulässige Nutzung von Katalytöfen, Grills und Heizpilzen in Innenräumen.

Kohlenmonoxid ist durch den Menschen nicht wahrnehmbar

Hermann Schreck, Vizepräsident des Deutschen Feuerwehrverbandes (DFV) erläutert: „Menschen können Kohlenmonoxid weder riechen, sehen noch schmecken. Nur CO-Melder können das lebensgefährliche Kohlenmonoxid im Raum messen und schon bei geringen Konzentrationen alarmieren.“ Hintergrund: die Symptome lassen sich nicht eindeutig zuordnen und ähneln anfangs denen einer Grippe: Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel. Schwächegefühl und Übelkeit. Eine schwere CO-Vergiftung kann zu Krampfanfällen, Herzrhythmus- und Bewusstseinsstörungen bis hin zum Tod führen.

Wo werden Kohlenmonoxid-Melder am besten installiert? 

Öfen, Kamine, Gas- und Ölheizungen sowie Schornsteine regelmäßig vom Schornsteinfeger überprüfen zu lassen. Zusätzlich gibt er Tipps zur Installation von Kohlenmonoxid-Meldern: „Mindestens in dem Raum, in dem der Kamin, Ofen oder die Ölheizung bzw. Gastherme steht sollten CO-Melder installiert werden. Im Idealfall gehören die Warnmelder aber auch in alle Räume, in denen sich die Bewohner aufhalten, wie Wohn- und Arbeitszimmer sowie Schlafzimmer.“ Walburg warnt zudem eindringlich davor, Grills, Heizpilze oder Katalytöfen innerhalb der Wohnung zu nutzen.

Wie Sie sich richtig verhalten, wenn ein CO-Melder Alarm auslöst

Bei einem CO-Alarm rät die Initiative zur Prävention von Kohlenmonoxid-Vergiftungen zu folgendem Verhalten:

  • Öffnen Sie Türen und Fenster, sofern möglich.
  • Verlassen Sie mit allen anwesenden Personen sofort das Gebäude.
  • Nehmen Sie Ihr Mobiltelefon mit.
  • Wählen Sie außerhalb des Hauses den Notruf 112.
  • Warten Sie draußen auf die Einsatzkräfte.
  • Informieren Sie weitere Bewohner/Nachbarn über die Gegensprechanlage oder telefonisch. Gehen Sie nicht wieder ins Haus.

Die Initiative zur Prävention von Kohlenmonoxid-Vergiftungen wurde 2018 gegründet. Zu den Mitgliedern gehören der Deutsche Feuerwehrverband (DFV), der Bundesverband des Schornsteinfegerhandwerks (ZIV), der Bundesverband der Ärztlichen Leiter Rettungsdienste (ÄLRD), die Bundesvereinigung der Arbeitsgemeinschaften der Notärzte Deutschlands (BAND), der BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik sowie die Netze BW und verschiedene Hersteller von Kohlenmonoxid-Meldern. Ziel der Initiative ist es, die Öffentlichkeit über die Gefahren von Kohlenmonoxid zu informieren und die Zahl der CO-Vergiftungen zu verringern.
